With the portable motor and pump tester MotorTOP or PumpenTOP, Vogelsang & Benning presents a further development for two applications at once. The MT-MWE measurement value acquisition system developed in-house has proven itself for years in stationary motor and pump test benches. By combining this measurement value acquisition with a notebook or PC, one obtains a transportable motor or pump test device for 3-phase power measurement, temperature measurement, acquisition of torque and speed as well as pressure and flow. The test devices make many advantages of the stationary test stand technology of the specialist for measuring and testing technology available for mobile use.

Dipl. Ing. Wilfried Benning, Managing Director of Vogelsang & Benning: “With the portable test devices, we are particularly addressing repair shops and small companies that are looking for an entry into computer-aided test bench technology.” With the help of the device, an existing test stand can, for example, be expanded with regard to centralised measured value acquisition and processing as well as logging of the results.

A sophisticated software concept with the necessary evaluations and protocols provides repair companies of electric motors or pumps in particular, but also manufacturers, with powerful mobile test equipment. The two versions, MotorTOP and PumpenTOP, differ only in the software application. An extension of the application area from MotorTOP to PumpenTOP and vice versa is therefore possible at any time by a pure software upgrade.

Motor testing

Depending on the available equipment with regard to the test item supply, the MotorTOP enables different measurements: No-load characteristic with individual loss determination for three-phase motors; continuous running measurement with automatic cyclic data storage; short-circuit characteristic with calculation of saturation factors for current and torque; operating characteristics as a function of shaft power as well as torque characteristic as a function of motor speed. In addition to an order-related test item administration and the storage and archiving of all test results, comprehensive tabular and graphic evaluations are available as documentation of the tests carried out. For further customer-specific evaluation of the data and results, export to Excel is possible.

Pump test

The basic unit is designed so that pumps of any type can be tested. Depending on the conditions on site, pump operators can also carry out detailed measurements on pumps located in the field. To determine the delivered hydraulic power of the pump, the pressure on the suction and discharge side as well as the flow rate must be measured. If pressure transducers and flow meters are installed in the measuring section, their signals can be included in the measurement. If shut-off devices are available for flow control and different operating points can be approached, these can be checked and recorded. By adjusting the shut-off device, the entire flow characteristic can be recorded and, as an option, speed measurement can also be carried out.

A wide range of accessories is available to further equip the units, for example three temperature sensors, each with magnetic base and connection cable (4-wire technology), or a speed sensor based on the laser reflection principle, mounted on a movable stand with magnetic base and connection cable. Connection cables for current and voltage measurement or clamp-on current transformers complete the equipment of the MotorTOP and PumpenTOP units.
